Akan (Ghanian vernacular) word, Sankofa means "one
must return to the past in order to move forward".

Mission
Sankofa’s mission is to bring revitalization and financial
empowerment to the Greater Edmondson, Uplands and surrounding
communities. Through strategic partnerships, resources and
charitable outreach, Sankofa seeks to coordinate and implement
programs to enhance the socio-economic development of the
community.
Vision
Sankofa’s vision is to become the premier faith-based
institution that fosters, promotes and supports socio-economically
empowered individuals, families and small businesses in the
Greater Baltimore community.
Goals
The program services and activities committed or supported
by SCDC will be carried out in a manner that supports the
purposes and goals as set forth below:
Purpose
- To provide assistance to the Greater Edmondson Area and
adjacent communities working through a network of partners
and community based organizations for the reduction of community
blight, the revitalization of the community housing units
and the empowerment of residents and business community.
- To accomplish the goals described and implement the strategy
outlined in the plan.
- Broadening of the resource base of programs.
