PRESIDENT'S DAY IN JULY
Since the official opening of Sankofas Temporary Headquarters
on Jun 2, 2001, the executive board has stepped up the pace
on many projects and programs sponsors by the CDC. One
such event was an opportunity to host a open house for all
Homeowner Association Presidents surrounding the greater Edmondson
Village (21229) Area of Southwest Baltimore City, Maryland.
On July 21, 2001 Association Presidents representing Beechfield,
Irvington, South Rock Glen, Ten Hills, Tremont, Huntington
Ridge, Uplands and Westgate were invited and attended an informal
ice breaker open house. Additionally, The Southwest-NHS
attended and lent support to the day.
The event gave the CDC and Associations an opportunity to
meet and place faces with names which has been
long over due. Chairman and CEO Edward Smith Jr. facilitated
the informal meeting and after introduction were done, Mr.
Smith gave a detailed overview of Sankofas mission,
purpose and proactive initiatives currently under way in the
community which are sponsored/co-sponsored by Sankofa.
An opportunity for questions and answers took place and
throughout the afternoon food and refreshments were enjoyed
by all. Also present at the open house were representatives
from Bank of America and Chesapeake Bank of Maryland.
Both financial institutions currently are partners with
Sankofa and are major sponsors of Sankofas upcoming
Golf Tournament being held
on Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Forest Park Golf Course.
The open house and meeting was hailed a success by all in
attendance and helped to solidify the partnerships Sankofa
continues to foster with the community.
